Rooted in Hamilton, Built for Ontario

Seven Stones Landscape started in Hamilton with a simple idea: homeowners deserve outdoor spaces that are built right - not just pretty on day one, but still solid after a decade of Ontario freeze-thaw and clay soil. We've seen too many patios heave and walls bow because the base or drainage was short-changed. So we committed to doing it the other way.

Our team grew from local projects along the Niagara Escarpment and across the Golden Horseshoe - from Ancaster and Dundas to Burlington Oakville and beyond. We source hardscape materials from trusted suppliers along the QEW corridor and, when the design calls for it, we work with local nurseries in the Hamilton-Halton region so plantings are suited to our zone. This isn't generic landscaping - it's hardscaping and landscaping built for Hamilton's clay-heavy soil Halton's codes, and the weather that tests every base we lay.

From One Backyard to Hundreds

The first project we completed in Hamilton was a modest interlock patio and walkway for a family who wanted a place for their kids to play and for weekend get-togethers. We excavated, put down a proper granular base - no skimping - and laid the stone. That was over 12 years ago. The patio is still level, and that family has since had us back for a retaining wall and more. That job set the standard: drainage and base first then the finish. We've carried that same discipline into every project since, from the Escarpment to the lake.

Meet the Seven Stones Team

Every Seven Stones project is run by the same two people from quote to final walkthrough, no subcontracted sales reps, no rotating site managers. Here's who you'll work with.

Riaad

Riaad is the owner of Seven Stones Landscape and the project manager on every job. He measures every site, designs every base spec, and does the final walkthrough at completion. With the company since founding in 2013, he's the one accountable for the engineering call on retaining walls over 1 metre, the drainage decisions on Halton Till clay, and the warranty that gets put in writing. He is an ICPI Certified Installer and authors the technical guides on this site.

John

John handles every quote from first call through written estimate. He's the one who shows up with the Unilock and Techo-Bloc sample boards, walks you through paver options against your home's brick and trim, and gets the itemized written quote back to you within 3 business days. After the quote is signed, John stays in the loop on scheduling and material lead times.

The Experience Behind Every Project

We don't just install patios - we engineer them for Ontario's conditions. With 12+ years of hands-on work across the Golden Horseshoe, we've learned that clay-heavy soil in Hamilton, Ancaster, and Stoney Creek demands a deeper, well-compacted base and careful drainage. We're ICPI certified for concrete paver installation; we also install concrete driveways stamped concrete patios and exposed aggregate using 4000 PSI air-entrained concrete for freeze-thaw resistance. We work regularly with Techo-Bloc and Unilock products - the same materials you see at local suppliers and in award-winning projects. Our crews use excavators laser levels and compaction equipment so every base is precise and every surface drains away from your home. That combination of certification, materials, and tooling is what separates a patio that lasts from one that shifts in a few winters.

Drainage-First Engineering & Sustainable Choices

Drainage isn't optional - it's the foundation. Every patio, walkway, and retaining wall we build is designed so water moves away from your house and never pools under the base. We slope surfaces, use proper aggregate and weep holes where needed, and in heavy clay areas we build bases that can handle the swell and shrink of Ontario seasons. That's drainage-first engineering: it's what keeps your investment from heaving or cracking.

For softscape and plantings, we favour sustainable, local options where the design allows - species that thrive in our zone and require less water and chemicals. We're not purists; we're pragmatists. The goal is a landscape that looks great, performs for decades, and doesn't fight the environment we work in.

Enhance Your Outdoor Living Space

We build custom outdoor spaces across the Golden Horseshoe using premium Unilock and Techo-Bloc pavers and wall systems - the same materials specified by leading Hamilton and Burlington hardscape contractors. Every interlock patio, concrete driveway or stamped patio retaining wall, and walkway is matched to your property, Ontario's clay-heavy soil, and our freeze-thaw conditions for lasting quality and craftsmanship.

Our Process

Your dream outdoor space starts with a vision. Whether you have a clear idea or need inspiration, we work with you to create detailed sketches and a design that fits your property - and we specify Unilock and Techo-Bloc products where they're the right fit for patios (interlock or concrete), driveways, and retaining walls across Hamilton, Burlington, and Oakville.

From there we refine the plan: features, layout, and materials that suit your space and our climate. We develop a clear execution plan so every detail - from granular base and drainage to paver choice and finish - meets ICPI-level standards for durability and craftsmanship. That's how we deliver interlock and hardscape work that holds up to Ontario winters and clay soil.

Finally we bring it to life. Our crews use excavators, laser levels, and compaction equipment to execute the build. You get a clean transformation: a patio or landscape built to last, with a written quote and one team from start to finish.

Trust & Verification, Common Questions

Before you hand a contractor a deposit on a $10,000-$40,000 project, you should be able to verify them in three minutes. Here's how to verify Seven Stones, and what to ask any other contractor you're considering.

Yes. Seven Stones carries $5M general liability insurance and full WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) coverage on every employee. Hardscape and landscape contracting in Ontario does not require a provincial trade licence the way HVAC or electrical does, but a reputable contractor should always carry these two coverages. Ask any contractor for a Certificate of Insurance and a WSIB Clearance Certificate, both are free for them to produce and protect you from liability if a worker is injured on your property.
Our public profiles are the best place: Facebook and Instagram show recent project photos and homeowner comments. We're also happy to share local references on the quote call, many homeowners want to drive past a finished driveway or patio in their neighbourhood before signing.
Google Local Services Ads (LSA) and the Google Guaranteed badge are eligible for our category in Ontario, and we are pursuing verification. The badge means Google has independently verified business registration, insurance, and run a background check on the owner. If the badge isn't visible yet on a Google search for our name, that's because verification takes 2-4 weeks. Our $5M liability insurance and WSIB coverage are already verifiable directly, ask for the Certificate of Insurance.
Yes. ICPI is the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute the only third-party install certification recognised in Canada for paver hardscape. ICPI-certified installers are tested on base prep, edge restraint, polymeric sand activation, and drainage. It matters because the #1 reason interlock fails in Ontario is bad work below the pavers, not the pavers themselves. An ICPI installer is contractually expected to follow ICPI Tech Spec base depths.
Yes, we install authorized Unilock and Techo-Bloc product lines. Authorization gives our installs full manufacturer warranty coverage on the unit itself (typically lifetime transferable on the structural paver) in addition to our 5-year workmanship warranty.
Yes. Seven Stones is a member of the Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association the provincial industry body. Membership requires demonstrated business standards and is verifiable through the Landscape Ontario "Find a Company" directory.
Founded in 2013 in the Hamilton area. Twelve-plus years of continuous operation across Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville and the Halton corridor. Year of incorporation is verifiable through Ontario business registry searches.
Five-year written workmanship warranty on every concrete and interlock project. Concrete coverage includes settlement, control-joint failure, and finish defects. Interlock coverage includes settlement, edge failure, joint loss, and base-related issues. Manufacturer warranty on Unilock or Techo-Bloc pavers themselves runs separately. Warranty terms are written into the quote, not a verbal promise.
Yes, every on-site quote is free with no obligation. We measure the area, check subgrade and access, and walk you through finish or paver options on the spot. The written itemized quote follows within 3 business days so you can compare apples-to-apples against other quotes.
Three red flags: (1) a single lump-sum number with no line items, you can't compare it to anything; (2) refusing to show a Certificate of Insurance or WSIB clearance; (3) demanding a large up-front deposit (over 30%) before any materials are ordered. Honest contractors itemize, share insurance certificates on request, and structure deposits around real material lead times.
